Preserve + Protect Comorian History

The Djoumbe Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich, yet largely untold, history of the Comoros. In an era where generative AI is becoming a key tool for students and historians, we are at a pivotal moment. What is being created now will shape the historical record for the future.

Despite this, Comorian history remains poorly represented in the digital sphere, often relying on incomplete or inaccurate sources. These important stories are not being told, and the narratives of the Comorian people are being lost. We are here to right these inequities by documenting and sharing this history through comprehensive resources, including a podcast, book, and the first Comorian-first history curriculum for schools.

Our mission is to ensure that the rich cultural heritage of the Comoros is preserved, accurately represented, and celebrated for generations to come.

Djoumbe Foundation History

Explore the rich history of the Comoros with the Djoumbe Foundation. Inspired by Djoumbé Fatima, a legendary queen who shaped the archipelago, we advocate for Comorian education and share the stories of the Comoros often forgotten by Western media. Through our educational initiatives and public engagement, we aim to promote and preserve the island's vibrant cultural narratives, empower the youth and bring global recognition to Comorian heritage.

Our Founders

Matthew Miller and Madeline Pollack started the Djoumbe Foundation over our shared love of the Comoros and passion for African history.
